How does your favorite music make you feel? Music evokes many emotions and responses which can be very beneficial to a variety of patients. Hamot now offers a Medical Music Therapy Program directed by Craig A. Stevens, MA, MT-BC. Medical Music Therapy has been shown to reduce pain and stress, reduce the amount of anesthesia or analgesics used, reduce patient LOS and increase patient and family satisfaction. MMT is clinically recognized to influence biological responses such as heart rate, blood pressure, respiration rate, cardiac output, muscle tone, papillary responses, skin responses, the immune system and endorphin production. It can benefit all patients, but is currently being focused on oncology, neuro-rehab, NICU, and pre and post-op patients.
